The Country - Billy Collins Animated Poetry (LOVE this one!)

Billy Collins, former US Poet Laureate and one of America's best-selling poets, reads his poem "The Country" with animation by Brady Baltezor of Radium.

Transcript -

I wondered about you
when you told me never to leave
a box of wooden, strike-anywhere matches
lying around the house because the mice

might get into them and start a fire.
But your face was absolutely straight
when you twisted the lid down on the round tin
where the matches, you said, are always stowed.

Who could sleep that night?
Who could whisk away the thought
of the one unlikely mouse
padding along a cold water pipe

behind the floral wallpaper
gripping a single wooden match
between the needles of his teeth?
Who could not see him rounding a corner,

the blue tip scratching against a rough-hewn beam,
the sudden flare, and the creature
for one bright, shining moment
suddenly thrust ahead of his time -

now a fire-starter, now a torchbearer
in a forgotten ritual, little brown druid
illuminating some ancient night.
Who could fail to notice,

lit up in the blazing insulation,
the tiny looks of wonderment on the faces of his fellow mice, onetime inhabitants
of what once was your house in the country?

Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears For Fears)

also like this one a lot!

Lyrics:

Welcome to your life
Theres no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

Its my own design
Its my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Theres a room where the light wont find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do Ill be right behind you

So glad weve almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I cant stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that youll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it ?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Shout, Shout (Tears for Fears)

I have always loved this song...

Lyrics:

Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on
Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on

In violent times, you shouldn't have to sell your soul
In black and white, they really really ought to know
Those one track minds that took you for a working boy
Kiss them goodbye, you shouldn't have to jump for joy
You shouldn't have to jump for joy

Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on

They gave you life, and in return you gave them hell
As cold as ice, I hope we live to tell the tale
I hope we live to tell the tale

Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on
Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on

Shout, shout, let it all out (let it all out)
These are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on

And when you've taken down your guard
If I could change your mind, I'd really love to break your heart
I'd really love to break your heart

Shout, shout, let it all out
(Break your heart) these are the things I can do without
(I'd really love to break your heart) come on
I'm talking to you, come on
Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you so come on

(Guitar solo)

Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on
(They really really ought to know) Shout, shout, let it all out
(Really really ought to know) These are the things I can do without
(They really really) Come on, I'm talking to you, come on
(They really really ought to know) Shout, shout, let it all out
(I'd really love to break your heart)
These are the things I can do without
(I'd really love to break your heart)
Come on, I'm talking to you so come on
Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things I can do without
Come on, I'm talking to you, come on...(fade)

oh....my....

I just finished mowing the front and sides...and decided to trim all the bushes a bit anyways. GOOD thing I went out and mowed as some moss/vine thing had started to wrap itself around my air conditioner outside.

I am now ready to tackle the back.....and am unbelievably hot and sweaty!

I feel like a total idiot mowing my weeds.....but it does look better. Next MAYBE I will plant a few flowers and put my RED, WHITE, and BLUE stuff up to get ready for the Fourth and the rest of the summer.

I cannot wait till I can take a shower! I imagine the neighbors all think I have lost it now.

I wish there were a way to sometimes just mow at night.....

UPDATE......I finished mowing....and trimming. Everything looks so much better....no weeds is ideal! AND I finished just in time cause it has been raining buckets! We really needed the rain so I am not complaining. In fact....I would love to have a couple of rainy days!

I got my luxurious shower.....now I am sweeping, dusting and cleaning the house as well as doing a couple loads of laundry. I also just made some grilled chicken and a big plate of spinach! YUM! I LOVE it!

I think I will watch another movie tonight too....not sure which one yet. I will give a review if I do.

Steamy......

I decided to watch a movie last night so I chose "Night At The Museum." If you have not yet seen it...I would highly recommend it. It was funny and had a lot of action in it as well. It is a very good "family" movie and the kids would love it!

Otherwise it feels like we are in the DOG DAYS of summer and summer only officially started less than one week ago! The temperatures continue to compete for position with the humidity making it feel like an inveritable sauna outside!

(I KNOW I KNOW.....inveritable is an urban slang....n. It is used as a slang/secretive term for a verifiably, extremely, 100% undeniably, more so than average, slammin hot girl.

adj. Used to describe a situation that is verifiably extremely, 100% undeniably, more so than average, slammin hot.

Example 1.

Guy 1: "Damn, did you see Mikerich's new girl?"
Guy 2: Yeah, I can't lie, she's quite the inveritable.

Example 2.

Guy 1:"My mom left for vacation so we can get mad beer and alcohol, get wasted, and call mad white girls tonight!"

Guy2: "Oh hot damn.... thats inveritably awesome."

ANYway......it has been hot.....so it makes for superb headaches if you spend too much time outside.....that is if you can breathe. Today I will get to experience it firsthand as I will need to go mow my weeds! Yes....not really any GRASS to mow today.....we have had such a drought all our grass is basically dead/dormant. BUT the weeds have taken off and are getting up there. I have not seen anyone mow now for at least a MONTH which is unheard of this time of year! Till today....the neighborman is also outside mowing HIS weeds. SO I won't feel like a total idiot outside mowing weeds since someone else is doing it also!

I have some bushes that need trimming as well but those can wait till dusk or nighttime...besides I need some hedge trimmers!

Anyway....I need to get back to work for now. Hope everyone has a great day!

Herbie Hancock Jams with his Fairlight CMI

awakened by a poem...

Yes. Sometime in the middle of the night words started to mix in my brain....and would not leave. I had a lot of thoughts mixing around in my brain...so finally.....since I continued to be awakened.....I took the hint and got up out of bed and turned on my computer and WROTE. The end result was TWO poems.....the one that awakened me and another one I sort of thought about last night.

Anyway......I am now going to try to go back to sleep....since it is my day off.....to catch some extra sleep if I can. I had a busy day Saturday....and even though I did not do all that much yesterday......I would appreciate the extra sleep.

WHY is it when lightbulbs go out....they all seem to do it at around the same time?

Sugar Daddy...

Can you be my Sugar Daddy?

No not the kind for money
But like the candy on the stick
That tastes even sweeter than honey

When I think of you I have to say
My mouth begins to water
Honey it would make my day
If it wouldn't be too much bother

We don't have to worry about Sugar Babies
From what I want to do
But I can promise you very weak knees
By the time I am finished with you

So would you be my Sugar Daddy?
You fit all the qualifications
You're hard as a brick and last so long
And I know you'd give a standing ovation!

missing you...

There's a mound in the middle of my mattress

When I roll to where you should lie

Instead of moulded from your caress

The bed is puffed up too high

The sheets are not in disarray

The pillows go untouched

When I see all that I have to say

I'm missing you so much

So much that this awakened me

In the middle of the night

These words all mixed like cream in tea

These thoughts needing to take flight

Making me arise to write this down

Lest I forget by morn

Wishing somehow it was all a dream

And my mattress was very well worn.
